After a visioning process in 2006 our goal is that by 2012, we are having a tangible impact on community needs through servant ministries as individuals, small groups and the parish with a goal of all parishioners volunteering for 4 hours per month.
All Christians are called to follow Jesus and to serve those in need and those marginalized by race and gender. Our mission is to shepherd and educate parishioners to fulfill their promise to their baptismal covenant and to give them a variety of ways that they may support the needs of the poor and neglected. The Outreach Commission provides opportunities and programs that enable parishioners to use their time, talent and treasure for the good of others.
We support programs and ministries in the community both financially and with volunteers and are actively looking to increase our offering. Our current list of outreach ministries include the following:
  • Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM) we are one of 31 churches that support MAM whose mission is to assure that families have the means to meet their basic needs. We sign a pledge card to MAM each year agreeing to be a financially supporting parish. Parishioners donate clothing, food and furniture and have volunteered in the resale store and in the many programs that are offered. To provide volunteers is a part of our pledge. At Christmas we provide gifts for many families in the Spring Branch ISD and in the summer give financial help for their school uniforms and school supplies.
  • Lord of the Streets is an Episcopal Ministry committed to providing supportive services to meet the needs of homeless individuals and families. These services include healthcare, food, clothing, personal hygiene kits, services to obtain identification, case management for employment, counseling and substance abuse services, and providing referrals to emergency shelter and permanent housing programs. Each month a dedicated group of parishioners prepares 150 lunch sacks for LOTS. We recently refurbished a bedroom at their facility.
  • The Beacon is a ministry of Christ Church Cathedral providing services to the homeless. Emmanuel provides volunteers on a regular basis.
  • In May we completed our second adult mission trip to help with the rebuilding of New Orleans.
  • Hands of Charity* is a ministry of Christ the King Episcopal Church sending much need goods to Sierra Leone. We support with goods and finances.
Future opportunities being planned:
-  In the fall of 2008 we will begin The Gathering Place  as a ministry to those who are caregivers for people with dementia.
-  At Christmas we will have an alternative giving market supporting Nets for Life. We have supported  the Millennium Deveolpment Goals both with prayer and financially and are inspired to begin this new ministry to further our contribution.
-  In 2009 we will have our first overseas mission trip for adults
