Emmanuel Episcopal Church

Meet the Staff

The Rev. Janie Kirt Morris, Rector -rector@emmanuel-houston.org
Having been called to Emmanuel from the Diocese of Oklahoma in early 2003, Janie feels blessed to serve God's people here.  She resonates with the assurance from Romans 8:38 that nothing “will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” In addition to her passion for ministry, Janie enjoys listening to music, especially jazz, playing and watching sports, and being in nature.

The Rev. Bradley Sullivan, Assistant Rector and Youth & Young Adults Minister - bradaa23@hotmail.com
Brad is a cradle Episcopalian and was raised in Houston since he was two years old.  Having grown up in the church, Brad discovered a longing to know more about God in high school and years later, found that desire beautifully expressed in Psalm 62:1, "For God alone my soul in silence waits; from him comes my salvation."  As the Assistant Rector at Emmanuel, Brad's primary focus in ministry is welcoming newcomers, and his passions are preaching, teaching, and evangelism.  Brad's hope in evangelism is not to try to convert everyone to the faith, but rather to help Christians enjoy sharing their faith by finding and sharing the joy that faith in Christ brings

The Rev. Gill Keyworth, Deacon - gillkeyworth@aol.com
Gill  grew up and went to school in England where she graduated with a degree in Applied Math.  Her husband’s work has necessitated them moving around the world and they have finally settled in Houston. Gill has volunteered for many years in the church. She is an Iona graduate and is currently the Deacon at Emmanuel.  "My continuing loyalty to the Anglican Communion has it roots in my childhood and family tradition."

Betsey Walker, Director of Christian Formation - formation@emmanuel-houston.org
A lifelong Episcopalian, Betsey and her family have been active members of Emmanuel since 1998. Betsey and her husband have three boys and one grandchild. Betsey began volunteering in children’s ministries and other youth service organizations during college and has continued that tradition throughout her adult life. A graduate of Education for Ministry, she was called to be our Director of Children’s Christian Formation in the summer of 2007.

Sondra Tucker, 11:15 Organist and Choir Master - music@emmanuel-houston.org
Sondra has spent her career in church music and has served churches in Arkansas, Utah, Tennessee, and Texas.  She holds a Master of Sacred Music degree from the University of Memphis and has also earned the Associate and Choir Master certificates from the American Guild of Organists.  She is a nationally-known handbell clinician and conductor, and has many published compositions for organ, bells, and choir.  She is committed to helping people express their faith through music.

Cathy Beck, 9:00 Music Director - cathibec@yahoo.com
Cathy has been a member of Emmanuel since moving to Houston with her husband John in 2004.  Born and raised in Oklahoma, she has played the piano in church (along with other music positions) since a child.  Although she has her teaching degree, music is a very important part of her life,  one of which is playing for The Gathering Place.
She prays God will speak to others through the talent He has given her.

Toni Bejko, Day School Directordayschool@emmanuel-houston.org
Toni was born and raised in Michigan, and moved to Houston in 1989. She holds her certification in Early Childhood education and her Texas Child Care Director’s License. Toni came to Emmanuel Episcopal Day School as Director in June of 2004. Along with her husband and 2 children, they enjoy spending time together and traveling. She serves on her children’s school PTA committee and is on the board for the Weekday Ministries Presbyterian Early Childhood annual teacher conference.

Andra Abbott, Small Groups Coordinator - agabbott@sbcglobal.net

Laura Thomasson, Publicity Coordinator - The3rdPlace@emmanuel-houston.org
Laura is a military wife and mother to a pre-school boy.  Prior to her service at Emmanuel, she was a veterinary nurse for 6 years and has one animal in her house for each year of service in that industry (2 dogs, 4 cats).  She was raised between the Catholic church and a non-denominational Christian church.  Her lifetime search for the most fitting tradition ended with her first visit to Emmanuel where the liturgical tradition from her childhood and the community made her feel right at home.

Julie Rainey, Publications Editor & Web Sexton - editor@emmanuel-houston.org
Julie is a life-long Methodist and Houstonian. She is a graduate of Sam Houston State University. She came to work at Emmanuel in July of 2004. She and her family are currently members of Foundry Methodist.
